The last day before classes would begin most students were taking a relaxing break. Jaylen was much like these other students. She sat here in the courtyard not doing much. She was eying the new first years, studying what they were doing, figuring out who would be her new person to pick on. Her mind was swimming in ideas, new potion ideas and maybe even spells. She wrote down ideas in a small notebook she kept on her person at all times. Most of the older students knew that notebook contained many ideas and plans of hers and if they even took a peek at it they would be a major target of some evil pranks. This had happened about two years back in the middle of her third year when a second year Gryffindor decided to get brave during lunch one day and she had it sitting next to her. She got it back in a matter of minutes but the student had spent a few days at the top of the great hall, no one had been able to figure out how to break her spell.

The toes of Jake’s shoes scraped across the ground as he walked, dragging his feet in a bored manner. He was playing with his wand in the air, waving it in the space in front of him to create a string of blue light that followed his wand tip. He was carrying a leather messenger bag hung over his shoulder, which bounced into his leg with every step. He was humming something tuneless, his eyes unfocused and a dazed expression on his face. A few people laughed at him good-humouredly as he walked past, but he knew they meant no harm by it, and their laughter contained no malice. He got along fairly well with most people, and they didn’t tend to want to get on the wrong side of him. His feet were carrying him in some unknown direction, but he didn’t care. There were no classes until tomorrow, and he was relaxed. Suddenly he stopped walking and playing with his wand, turned his head and opened his rucksack. He rifled through the contents before removing a leather-bound book, looking inside it and then replacing it where he got it from within the bag. Just checking it was still there. He carried on walking, and eventually found himself in the courtyard. People were sitting around, relaxed. Some were chatting, others just sitting around not doing much. He smiled, and started looking around for a few mates to go and talk to. He was bored. He stood there for a few moments, before he realised not many of his mates were here. In fact, none of them were here. He glanced around, before his attention was drawn to a girl sitting on the other side of the courtyard. His attention was only drawn to her because he remembered the incident which involved a second year stuck to the top of the great hall, which he had found tremendously funny. He hadn’t liked the kid much. He had mixed opinions on the girl. She was a prankster, and Jake found some of her pranks funny. For some of the others, though, he wasn’t such a fan. Some of them could get out of hand, and they didn’t always turn out funnily, for him. Still, she was on her own and Jake was bored. So, he strolled over to her, watching her writing in her notebook. He knew it would be more than his life’s worth to touch that notebook, he really couldn’t be bothered being stuck to the side of the courtyard today. “Hey.” He said, as he neared. He then seemed at a loss of what to say, because he waved his hand vaguely, then pushed it through his spiked-up black hair. Awkward....

Jaylen sighed when she heard someone speak to her, she hated being interrupted. She took her notebook and snapped it shut and shoved it quicly into her robes. The notebook was one of her most prized possessions. The only person who had read it, well we won't talk about her. The book contained some horrific spells and potions, things they couldn't even teach at school. Those self-made spells and potions could cause bodily harm if they fell into the wrong hands. Jaylen at least knew when enough was enough. Her ice cold eyes moved up and down trying to figure out why a Gryffindor, especially this one, would come up to her. She pulled out another small notebook, except this was from the small bag next to her. This one was in a table format. "So what can I help you with?" she asked. She tried to sound formal. This Gryffindor, what was his name she knew it started with a J but that was about it, she knew from her classes. They were in the same year. He'd landed himself in trouble quite often, even the hospital wing for taking on bullies, but never had he taken on her. Smart on his part she thought. She was a person who was very about herself than others.
She tried not to be rude this could be a potential hit on some other student for him. He was a little bit awkward, the way he pushed his hair back and waved his hand she had to keep from giggling. He was funny and cute in the awkward way. She eyed him carefully he looked almost lost for words. Maybe he wasn't hear to hire her. She shrugged and put away the notebook. She scooted over, "I'm not usally friendly towards half-bloods mind you," she told him, "but take a seat, you look as bored as I do." She knew some of his line, her mother went to school with his parents. She really wasn't friendly towards anyone who wasn't a pure-blood. She spent her life blocking the muggle side of her family. If only people knew of her secret she held. For the last five years before her brother graduate she denied any relation to him. He was in Gryffindor, most everyone knew he was her brother but she refused to allow it to be. People stopped trying after a while or they'd end up with some nasty rash or something along those lines. Nobody crossed Jaylen.
Jaylen was ashamed of her life at home. How could her father have done such a thing? How could her mother a long time Slytherin marry someone who'd done it. Well at least the male standing across from her couldn't help his lineage. She had to keep that in mind as a few people glanced over looking at them. She pushed her thoughts out of mind and looked up at him.
